It designed for first-time students – as well as those with questions about how to complete a course – and takes about 10 minutes.

Signing Up

In order to access any LGC Academy course material, you’ll need a username and password.

You’ll receive those by e-mail once you have completed this website’s online sign-up form.

If you don’t receive an e-mail, please check your junk e-mail folder or spam filters.

You will need to verify your e-mail address by opening the initial e-mail and clicking on the link it contains before signing up for any courses.

Once you've clicked on that link and activated your account, you can log in anytime by going to www.lgcacademy.org and clicking the "log in" link on the lefthand side.

Once you’ve filled in your username and password, you can easily access your selected courses – or sign up for new ones!

On the log-in page, you'll see a list of some commonly asked questions with answers that can help you troubleshoot any log-in issues you may experience.

·         Class-related announcements, and

·         Assignments that are due.

Be sure to check the announcements section regularly as important notices relating to class schedules, assignment changes and instructor announcements will be posted in this space.

Enrolling in a Course

Log in and click the "course signups" link to enroll in courses and purchase any necessary books.

Once you enroll in a course, you’ll need to be approved by an LGC staff member before you can access course information.

You’ll receive an e-mail informing you of your approval status soon after your electronic enrollment request has been received.

Enrolled Courses

Once you’ learn that you’re successfully enrolled, you can click on the "enrolled courses" link -- on the left side of the page -- to access course material.

You can also note if you’re enrolled in multiple courses simultaneously.

Key informational elements on this page include:

·         The schedule -- which shows any upcoming, in-person classes)

·         The course instructor,

·         Class resources,

·         And class assignments.

Some of these elements are not relevant to all classes offered.

So don't be surprised if some areas of chosen course screen appear blank.

Resources

Resources are non-graded, non-required items which relate to a class – like:

·         Sample documents,

·         Research links, and

·         Extra information.

Just click on the link to access a resource and then close it to return to the academy’s main page.

Assignments

Assignments deliver course material – and sometimes test on it.

The “enrolled courses” page provides you with an overview of assignments, notes when they are due and whether or not they are sequential, graded, and completed.

Some courses have timelines.

You'll see that reflected in the assignment due dates.

For courses with timelines, be sure to note assignment due dates and your progress through them.

An assignment may be any task assigned by an instructor.

The most common ones are:

·         Presentations and videos to watch,

·         Quizzes,

·         And reading assignments

Click the assignment’s title to access and review it in detail.

This window will give you a full description plus links to any available assignment resources.

For presentations, click to launch the presentation and then control it using these onscreen controls.

Once you've finished the assignment presentation by watching it all the way through, a “completed” notation automatically appears.

For quizzes, be sure to pay careful attention to any noted instructions.

Typically -- tests are timed and only allow you to take them once.

So be sure to complete a quiz once you’ve started one.

In a quiz, answer the various types of questions and submit your answers at the end.

The assignment is then automatically graded and marked as “completed” for you.

Forums

While you are enrolled in a course, you may have questions regarding the material or an assignment.

you can easily contact the instructor through the ”course forums” web section.

Just click the "questions" link in the left-hand menu -- then select your course.

There are available options for accessing public or private forums.

A question-and-response posted to the public form is visible to all class members.

The private forum is visible only to you and your instructor.

Click the "new topic" button to –

·         Start a new post,

·         Ask a question or

·         Make a comment about the course.

Fill in your topic title, and type your message.

Then click "post message."

You can view other students’ topics by clicking on them.

You can also post replies to any topic.

Take an active part in your class’s online discussions by monitoring its forums and posting messages regularly!
